Clyde Barr before the war outside his home in Brooklyn, NY. and Baracks after basic trainning Clyde was in the U.S. Army and participated in the South Pacific Theatre, he spent a lot of time in Paupua New Guinea along with ANZAC troops.

In 1942 I was inducted into the United States Army, to become a cog in the great fighting machine which was building. Woodrow Wilson's prediction of over twenty-five years ago that there would be another World War had become a fact. Once again, just as our fathers fought in 1917, we are fighting to make the world safe for democracy. They won their war on the field of battle, but it was lost for them at the peace table.
I am fighting a war against two nations: Germany, because after the last war conditions there were such as to foster the birth and growth of Nazism and sow the seeds of another war; Japan, who, having planned for years to wage war against us anyway was after the last war, given island bases from which to launch her aggression, and was appeased to the point where she felt that her opportunity had arrived.
I am fighting to rid the world of two of the most ruthless fanatics the world has ever known: Hitler and Hirohito. I am fighting this war so that future generations may live in peace and have equal rights, whether they are in rags or broadcloth..
Since the world began men have fought to defend their lands and freedom against ruthless invaders, lest they be enslaved by so-called super races, and to be able to live in freedom and in pursuit of happiness.I am fighting to liberate millions of oppressed and enslaved people who have been in human bondage for more than five years.
I am fighting to avenge the stab in the back we suffered at Pearl Harbor, and to shatter forever the myth of the Son's of Heaven, the myth that they were predestined to rule the world. But most of all, I am fighting for our rights and for the rights of people in other lands, to live in freedom; freedom of mind, freedom of soul and freedom of speech, and for generations to come to be able to live an abundant life, with peace and goodwill in their hearts for all mankind.
